It’s a really exciting and interesting time to be in the fashion industry in the Middle East right now.

As an Australian stylist what is your take on the style scene in the Middle East?

Years ago, I would’ve said that in the Middle East, we were a little safe and typically fashionable. And what I mean by that, is that people here didn’t like to take chances with their style choices, sticking mostly to known and classic brands over emerging and rising international brands. These days however, with the introduction of DDFC and Dubai Design District as well as the influx of more and more international brands, people are a little less shy to experiment a little and make style their own. It’s a really exciting and interesting time to be in the fashion industry in the Middle East right now.

It would be great to see upmarket labels like Alice McCall and Ellery have more of a presence here too.

Which Australian brands would you like to see more of in Dubai?

I love Australian brands and can never get enough of them. We are starting to receive more and more Australian labels as more and more retailers go online, however I think we could definitely see a lot more being retailed in the malls. I’d love Zimmermann to open a store here as they are on of the most iconic Australian labels of our time and a long time favorite of mine. I also love some of the smaller brands like Cameo Collective, Finders Keepers, Third Form, Bec & Bridge, Faithfull the brand and Keepsake. It would be great to see upmarket labels like Alice McCall and Ellery have more of a presence here too.

How has your style changed since becoming a mum?

These days, my outfits are predominantly about comfort and functionality. I need, as much as possible to be able to run after my daughter at any given moment, but at the same time I didn’t want to loose my overall identity just because I became a mum. Mostly, the biggest change is that I wear flats more frequently now.

Which of your fashion items will little Poppy definitely be inheriting?

I’ll be keeping all of my classic, staple designer pieces for little Poppy. She’ll undoubtedly get my Chanel 2.55, my Burberry trench and my wedding dress of course.

There are so many great labels coming out of Dubai these days

Which local UAE brands are your favorite?

There are so many great labels coming out of Dubai these days, it’s actually tough to narrow it down. I think I would have to go with All Things Mochi, Dima Ayad, Madiyah Al Sharqi, Arwa Al Banawi and Taller Marmo.

What do you think of the Designer-24 concept?

I think it’s brilliant. Especially in the Dubai landscape where there is constantly an event to attend. I don’t have enough space in my wardrobe to purchase as many dresses as I would need to cover all of the events, let alone enough money! So being able to rent these amazing pieces is a really big help.
